Introduction
- Every effort will be made to work cooperatively with you to ensure your event is a success.
- Rental of the Davis-Shai House and gardens must fall on times and dates that are not in conflict with a Heath Community Arts Council planned or scheduled function.
- Rental of the facility must fall within the parameters of the Heath Community Arts Council mission statement.
- Reservations are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
- A group permitted to meet at the Davis-Shai House does not in any way constitute an endorsement of that group's policies or beliefs by the Davis-Shai House, Heath Community Arts Council, or City of Heath.
- Restrictions may be placed on rental clients and caterers to ensure the security of the facility. A final interpretation of the usage policies is at the discretion of the Heath Community Arts Council Board of Trustees.
Hours for Rental
- The DAVIS-SHAI HOUSE is not available for rentals or special events during holidays, Easter Sunday, and July 2. The Executive Director may make exception.

Rental Fees and Packages
- Individual rooms, floors, entire facility, and gardens are available for rent. Fees are established based on the space requested, hours of use, and services requested. Contact the Events/Banquet Coordinator for pricing information.
- Recommended professional caterers are available for events of all sizes.
- Events held inside of the facility include the use of tables and chairs.
- Linens and china must be provided by the professional caterer.
- Catering by Davis-Shai House volunteers is limited to events held inside of the facility and availability of volunteers.
- Davis-Shai House catered events include the use of tables, chairs, linens, china, and table decorations.
- Self-catering is not permitted at the Davis-Shai House.
- At limited events, assigned staff - House Hosts/Hostess - may serve hot/cold drinks and professionally prepared deserts, party trays, and snack foods. This requires prearranged agreement. Fee charged.
Setup of Furniture and Equipment
- Only Davis-Shai House staff and volunteers are permitted to move furnishings in the Davis-Shai House, on the Veranda, or in the gardens.
- Chairs/tables rented for any occasion are the direct responsibility of the Client or rental company for delivery, setup, tear down, and pickup. These are restricted to outside of the facility and must be placed according to directions given by the Events/Banquet Coordinator.
Alcohol/Smoking
- As a general rule, no alcoholic beverages may be served at the Davis-Shai House.
- Champagne, beer, and wine may be served by a licensed bartender in moderation at parties, receptions, and weddings which are closed to the general public, on condition that the Davis-Shai House Banquet Coordinator is advised that champagne and wine will be served and the approval has been granted. Hard liquor is prohibited.
- The Client is responsible for making arrangements with the bartender to receive and/or supply champagne, beer and wine for the event. No alcohol may be brought onto the premises by guests or contracted employees other than the bartender.
Weddings
- Ceremonies
- Indoor ceremonies can take place in the Davis-Shai House for a maximum allotted under occupancy.
- Outdoor ceremonies can take place on the veranda, garden, or lawn of the Davis-Shai House for the maximum allotted under occupancy.
- The Davis-Shai House allows flower petals to be thrown or bubbles on the lawn area east of the building only. NO rice, grass seed, birdseed, glitter, confetti, potpourri, or balloons may be thrown or released on the DAVIS-SHAI HOUSE grounds. If this policy is violated, it will result in a $100 additional cleanup charge. This includes all areas outside of the Davis-Shai House.
- Rehearsals
- Wedding rehearsals are allotted one (1) hour of time at a fee of $30.00. If the rehearsal runs over the time limit, the Davis-Shai House will begin charging an hourly rate of $50.00 per hour.
- Because of time limitations, those in attendance at rehearsals should be restricted to persons required for the rehearsal. Children must be accompanied and supervised at all times by an adult.
- All rehearsals must be scheduled with the Davis-Shai House Banquet Coordinator.
- Decorations
- The Davis-Shai House is a beautiful facility that requires minimal decorations.
- Clients are invited to decorate with balloon bouquets, floral arrangements, and table decorations.
- Decorations may not be attached to walls, fixtures, or furnishings. No tape, tacks, etc. may be used.
- Live plant materials is restricted to the rented area.
- Due to fire code regulations, all candles must have an enclosed flame. Taper or drip candles must have a hurricane globe over them. Votive candles must be in an enclosed container
- All decorations must be removed from the house and grounds when the event is concluded.
Music and Dancing
- The Davis-Shai House can provide clients with a list of suggested musicians who represent various types of music styles and taste. Because of the historic nature of the Davis-Shai House, the Heath Community Arts Council strongly encourages clients to select musicians and music styles that complement the surroundings.
- Be advised that the set-up by musicians will reduce the number of tables and chairs that can be set-up for guests.
- Standard electrical service is available.
- The historic nature and size of the Davis-Shai House does not lend itself to disc jockeys, dance floors, and dancing.
- Due to the sensitive nature of our smoke alarms, the historical significance of the facility, and the safety of our guests, no fog, smoke or bubble machines are permitted in the facility or on the Davis-Shai House grounds.
Tenting
- Only tent rental companies registered with the Heath Community Arts Council are permitted to set-up a tent.
- Lawn tenting is limited to restricted areas and size, requires at least 30 days prior notice to the event, and must be coordinated with the Events/Banquet Coordinator.
- The client, tenting company, and Heath Community Arts Council/Davis-Shai House Executive Director must sign a tenting agreement.
- Garden tenting is NOT permitted.
